A "Gummy smile" is the opposite of recession and "black triangles." It is caused by too much gingiva covering the teeth, usually it is seen with young people. However, it also can occur when people take certain medications, such as Dilantin, cyclosporin or calcium channel blockers (see Dilantin, and Cyclosporin for examples).
