Periodontics means around (peri-) the tooth (-odont). In other words, it is the study and practice of preserving the gum, ligament and bone that support teeth and dental implants.
Periodontal plastic and reconstructive surgery is devoted to regenerating lost bone and gum tissue around teeth and improving esthetics of the gums.
